SUSTAINABILITY
Sustainability is all about meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. It's a concept that assumes resources are limited and should be used carefully to ensure there's enough for everyone. As the world faces a climate crisis, businesses are beginning to prioritise sustainability and it's likely that in the future, companies will be held accountable for their impact on the environment and society. A circular economy where resources are reused and waste is minimised will be key to achieving a sustainable future.

Sustainability offers numerous benefits both in the short and long term. Without making more sustainable choices we cannot maintain our Earth's ecosystems or continue to function as we do. If we maintain harmful processes without change we risk running out of fossil fuels and irreparably damaging the atmosphere. Sustainability provides clean air, reliable resource growth and water quality and cleanliness. It also benefits the entire world by reducing carbon footprints and the amount of toxins and pollutants released onto the environment. As climate change takes hold its more important than ever to seek sustainable solutions to create a cleaner and healthier world and potentially prevent catastrophic changes to the environment in the future.
Sustainability is a concept that comprises of three pillars - Environmental, Social and Economic factors (aka Planet, People and Profits). Environmental protection is the most frequently discussed element which involves reducing carbon footprints, water usage, non-decomposable packaging and wasteful processes. Social development is about treating employees fairly and ensuring responsible, ethical and sustainable treatment of employees, stakeholders and the community. Economic development is about achieving profitability while maintaining sustainability. Businesses can employ sustainable practices such as using renewable energy, creating environmentally friendly products, recycling, using sustainable packaging and much more.
Manufacturing businesses can incorporate areas of sustainability into their day to day business and the production of products by including certain requirements into their COP such as material waste.
